Last night was my last "unofficial" night with Youth for Christ. You see, my wife and I are becoming foster parents. I had a cut a few things out of my life, and Youth for Christ was one.
I'll miss it.
I've been volunteering with Youth for Christ for about 2 and a half years now. It's been fun, hard, sad, and every emotion in between. I have a love for the kids that "blew it" in life, maybe it's because I feel (well, I know) I'm one of them.
Anyway, we had a good time last night. I passed out a few Bibles to kids who earned them (long story). One kid ended up with a video. Many of you have seen Lifehouse's Everything skit, well, that's what he wanted.
We watched that one (again) and then decided to let the DVD play. There was another skit on there that was pretty touching, and pretty relevant for my life. Here it it.
God is God and I am not I can only see a part of the picture He’s painting God is God and I am man So I’ll never understand it all For only God is God
I read quite a bit. Probably two books a month. Sometimes fiction, sometimes non-fiction.
I decided what I needed to do was be a little more strategic when picking what I read, thus this post.
Here are a list of books I need to read (as of 06/25/09). As I read them I will cross them off the list. If you have any books you think I need to read please post a comment with the title and author. I'll read pretty much everything (even read a Nicholas Sparks book a few months back, although I'll never admit to it.).
FICTION
Graphic Novels (open to suggestions)
NON-FICTION
Getting to Yes (Bruce M. Patton, William L. Ury, and Roger Fisher)
It's an exciting, yet sad, day at the Ruman Household. You see we have traded in the Green VW Cabrio after four years of wonderful, yet embarrassing, years. The Cabrio has done well for our family, we're going to miss it. But, our family is growing and it was time to get a bigger vehicle (i.e. minivan).
There are so many great memories with the Cabrio. Here are just a few worth mentioning.
Lisa's "breakdown" on her move out to Colorado. It happened on a Saturday (when most auto shops are closed) and right in the middle of Nowhere, Iowa. Luckily Big Tony (her Dad) was there to save the day.
The infamous MMABuzz Video Blog (see video below...notice the speedometer)
The trip UP and DOWN Pike's Peak (thankfully I wasn't there to witness this one).
When I would pull up to a red light and have a guy pull up to me expecting to see a chick driving it. Sorrry buddy, it's just me, Mike.
The endless joking/making fun of I would get from driving it.
All-in-all it was a good car, and will be a good car for it's next owner. We wish them well, and hopefully they can make some wonderful memories of their own.
This is Gary Vaynerchuk talking to the book publishing industry. It's long but an entertaining talk. I liked the 'loss leader' point he makes. And I agree with him. It should at least be explored.
A very popular song on the Christian radio right now is Brandon Heath's Give Me Your Eyes. This song talks about wanting to see the world through God's eyes. My question is, really?
Do we really want to see all the suffering going on? All the evil in this world? All the hate? The wars?
After thinking about this I say 'yes, let me see with your eyes'. This takes me back to The Shack. One thing that book did was make me realize that God loves EVERYONE. I mean even the bad apples. And we should love them too, no matter what.
I don't know, I guess that can be a daily prayer for all of us.
Give me your eyes for just one second Give me your eyes so I can see Everything that I keep missing Give me your love for humanity Give me your arms for the broken hearted Wasnt it far beyond my reach? Give me your heart for the once forgotten Give me your eyes so I can see
